Varam Tharum Maram
(Athi Varadar Vaibhavam)
Part 23 – The Compassionate One who came in Kaliyan’s dreams
Aalinadan closed his eyes due to fatigue and hunger. He keep meditating on Imayor Thalaivan as he closed his eyes.
Vedas clearly say that it is not easy to understand Perumal. At the same time, it also shows an easy way to reach Him.
Is there any man who doesn’t like treasure? But this treasure is what pushed man deeper down an abyss. Will you believe if someone says that there is hidden treasure right beneath your house? What will you say? undoubtedly, you will argue that you’ve been living here for a long time and there is no possibility for such a treasure to exist without your knowledge. maybe if the other person is an expert in magic, he can give you a convincing explanation.
Just like how treasure is buried deep inside the earth, varadan is buried deep inside our hearts. Without understanding this, we are caught in the cycle of birth and death. If we chant the powerful eight-lettered mahamantram and close our eyes, we can see Him in our hearts. In this sense, the eight-lettered mantram is the magic that will that will take us towards Varadan. Like that, Kaliyan closed his eyes and meditated on the dark-hued form of Perumal.
The birds understood his meditation and they maintained silence to ensure that even the flapping of their wings doesn’t disturb him in any way. Just like how a lotus blossoms on seeing the sun, the lotus in Kaliyan’s heart also opened slowly. Like a bee hovering inside the lotus, Kaliyan saw Perumal in his heart’s lotus. He heard a thundering voice that asked Kaliyan the reason for his confusion.
Remember the divine voice that ordered Brahma when he suffered due to his inability to control his sense? Like that, this voice too thundered inside Kaliyan’s heart and gave him instructions.
“The banks of Vegavathi river are filled with treasure. Come there immediately!” after saying this, the voice stopped and the lotus in Kaliyan”s heart closed. Immediately, Kaliyan opened his eyes and prayed to Perumal.
“Who is it?” thundered Kaliyan and his booming voice resonated through the empty temple. Hearing these words, the birds fluttered and flew away in fear. The soldiers who were waiting in the front, rushed in. They were astonished to see that the man who was in chains was commandeering them now.
“Soldiers, take me to Kanchi immediately. I will pay my taxes there. Come on, do it soon,“ said Thirumangai Azhwar.
The soldiers worked furiously to remove his shackles and the news was immediately conveyed to the king. Surprised by the turn of events, the king also wanted to come along. They traveled to Kanchi without stopping anywhere on the way.
Azhwar prayed at Perumal’s feet and said in a loud voice, “Shrinidhi, Shrinidhi…when you’re there to shower wealth, why will go to the doors of lowly men!” Hearing this, the Chola king hung his head in shame.
Soon, they reached the shores of vegavathi river. the usually fierce Saraswathi looked calm that day. It seemed as if she calmed down due to her association with Thirumangai Azhwar’s feet.
Beautiful swans were swimming around the banks while the young ones of cranes were taking shelter in the small sand islands in the middle of the river. Wax flower fell along the banks and added whiteness and fragrance to the water.
When Kaliyan reached Vegavathi, he looked sharply at the waves and his eyes darted from one end of the shore to the other. His eyes scanned every bit of water and it stopped at a particular point. Varadan had explained the exact location of the treasure in his dream, so when Kaliyan found that stop, he turned to the king said, “O king, please ask your soldiers to dig here.”
The king blindly followed Kaliyan’s orders and treasure became visible as the soldiers started digging. Gold, diamonds, and precious gems oozed out of that place and it was way more than what the king wanted. In fact, the treasure was more than the waves itself!
“King! I have given you what is due. please allow me to continue my Bhagavatha Kainkaryam.” Without waiting for the king’s response, Kaliyan left the place.
“O MangayarkOn! Is this all for me? There is way more than what you owe, “said the king.
“Yes, O King! My wealth is Srinidhi Varadan. From this point on, my only goal in life is to serve Him.”
The king could not do or say anything and he simply prostrated in the direction in which Azhwar left.
