“வரம் தரும் மரம்”

பகுதி 18 – மனம் மயங்கிய மஹாயோகி
ஆனால் இந்த்ரன் தன் முயற்சியைக் கைவிடவில்லை. ஒருவரைக் கெடுப்பதில்தான் அவனுக்கு எவ்வளவு ஊற்றம்! நாம் எவ்வளவுதான் நம் புலன்களைக் கட்டுப்படுத்தினாலும், வாய்ப்புக் கிடைக்கும் சமயங்களில் அவைகள் நம்மைக் கெடுத்துவிடும். இதனை நம் ஸ்ரீஸ்வாமி தேசிகன் நன்கு விளக்குகிறார். கண்டு, ஸெளபரி முதலிய மகரிஷிகளும் மனம் மயங்கிய வரலாற்றை அடிக்கடி நமக்கு எடுத்துரைக்கிறார். அம்மாதிரியே இங்கு நடந்தது. தபோதனரைக் கலக்க இந்த்ரன் வேறொரு வழிமுறையைக் கையாண்டான்.
தன்னையொரு யானையாக மாற்றிக்கொண்டு அனேகம் பெண் யானைகளுடன் பலவிதமான கேளிக்கை விளையாட்டுகளை விளையாடிக்கொண்டு அவர் எதிரே நடமாடினான். உண்மையில் நாடகமாடினான் என்றே சொல்ல வேண்டும். யானையின் காம விளையாட்டுகளில் மஹாசாந்த மகரிஷியும் மனம் மயங்கினர். தானும் யானையாக மாறி இவ்வின்பங்களை அனுபவிக்க வேண்டுமென நினைத்தார். அவ்விதம் நினைத்த உடனேயே தவம் குலைய, இந்த்ரனின் சூழ்ச்சியால் யானையானார். தன் தபோ மகிமையை மறந்தார். காட்டு விலங்காகத் திரிந்தார்.

Part 18 – The Mesmerized Sage
Indran never gave up in his efforts to distract Mahasandhar. This goes to show the pleasure he gained from spoiling other’s efforts!
In general, we may try to control our senses with a lot of difficulty, but they will always try to take over at the first opportunity. This aspect is explained by Swami Desikan many times and in many places through the stories of great sages like Kandu and Sowpari. Like that, Mahasandhar also fell for Indran’s tactics.
Indran turned himself into an elephant, surrounded himself with other female elephants, and frolicked around with them in front of the sage. Mahasandhar got mesmerized by the lustful acts of these elephants and wanted to become one such elephant, so he could also enjoy these feelings. Immediately, his penance ended and he became an elephant. Mahasandhar forgot all about the power of his penance and roamed around in the forests like a wild animal.
